Are you looking for a veterinarian near you? At Alpha Animal Hospital in Campbell, CA, we perform several kinds of procedures. We’ll go over why your pet might need surgery and what to expect!

What Kinds of Surgery Do Pets Need?

Pets sometimes require surgery for an illness or injury. In other cases, surgery might be recommended, but not required. Some of the procedures and surgeries we perform include:

•           Spaying and neutering

•           Tooth extractions

•           Orthopedic surgery

•           Surgery to remove cancerous tumors

•           Surgery to remove intestinal obstructions

•           Surgery to treat fractures or other injuries

How Do You Keep Pets Safe?

We understand that you might be nervous when your pet has to undergo a procedure. We take many steps to ensure your pets’ safety, such as:

•           Monitoring pets' vital signs, like heart rate, while under anesthesia

•           Monitoring pets when they wake up

•           Evaluating pets beforehand to make sure a procedure is safe for them

•           Providing pre-surgery instructions for you, such as withholding food

What Can I Expect?

We’ll let you know what to do before bringing your pets in to our animal hospital. Depending on the type of surgery your pets are going to receive, we may have them stay overnight of observation. In many cases, pets can go home the same day. We’ll keep you informed of your pet’s condition and notify you when you can pick them up. Our facility has state-of-the-art equipment and fully trained staff to ensure the highest quality care!

What Happens During Recovery?

That depends on the procedure your pet has. More complex surgeries might require weeks or even months for full recovery. We may ask you to bring your pet in for a follow-up visit. In general, we’ll ask you to do the following:

•           Make sure your pet has a quiet and comfortable place to rest

•           Put an E-collar on to stop your pet from reaching the incision site

•           Watch for any signs of infection
